Spices

Turmeric and ginger  are cultivated at the southern foothills of the Himalayas. Due to the high elevation of the farmland where turmeric and ginger is cultivated, the quality of both spices is superb.

Agriculture in Bhutan is always small scale farming. Subsistence agriculture prevails to the day.

Szechuan pepper „thingye“ is actually the pericarp (outer schell) of Zanthoxylum spp.. Zanthoxyllum species are commonly used as life fences for their thorny appearance. Harvesting thingye is an immensely time consuming activity but the intensity of the flavor of Bhutanese provenience is excellent.
