Our lemongrass essential oil is distilled from the lemongrass species “Cymbopogon flexuosus” which is native only to Bhutan. This aromatic perennial lemongrass species grows wild under the chir pine trees in the pristine mountains of the Eastern region in Bhutan in Mongar, Lhuentse, Trashigang and Trashi Yangtse Dzongkhags.
The oil is distilled from the freshly cut leaves. The lemongrass collection, processing and oil extraction work is done by our partners, the Community Forest Management Groups from the four Eastern Districts of Bhutan.
Method of Distillation: Steam distilled method using stainless steel distillation units.
Properties: The oil with top to middle note has a consistent light and appealing lemony aroma which makes it unique from other oils. The reddish yellow to brown color oil is invigorating, stimulating, balancing and has antiseptic properties. It has a high citral content (more than 75%), the major component of lemongrass, and has geranial, neral and citronella.
